Participation Requirements:
All student-athletes must maintain good moral character, pass every academic course (maintaining a 2.0 GPA or better), with the exception of one class per six weeks, and attend every practice and game. This will apply to all six grading periods, both fall and spring semesters. Excused absences are permissable if the student-athlete informs the coach prior to the practice or game. If a student-athlete misses a game or practice without prior consent from the coach or if the absence is unexcused, the student-athlete will not be eligible to participate in the next game. Students must have a completed physical by a physician and have a completed school physical form on file with the athletic office.
The 2008 school year is upon us and it is a very exciting time for the Crusader athletics as we welcome a new year and new challenges. Part of my goal as athletic director is to challenge and motivate our student athletes to excell in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields. This year, as you will notice in your student handbooks, we will be honoring athletes during each athletic season for their dedication to hard work in the classroom with a scholar athlete award. Those student athletes participating in varsity athletics will be eligible for these awards.
One other thing that I look forward to is motivating our student athletes to focus on teamwork. I will be challenging each and every athlete to get to know one another on a more personal level. I have always thought of Harrells Christian as one, big family and feel that in my work experience at Harrells Christian Academy, our student athletes have gotten away from this mentality. As we all know, it takes a team to be successful in any sport and we are only as strong as our weakest link. You've all heard the coaches' cliches - "T.E.A.M. - Together Everyone Accomplishes More, there is no I in team," as well as many others. I plan on meeting with our student athletes once a week to emphasize how important it is for us all to be a team on and off the field of play.
I look forward to serving Harrells Christian Academy as athletic director. As a former Crusader, there is no where else I would rather be than at H.C.A. It has always felt like home to me, and I only pray that I will be able to serve our athletes and the Crusader Tradition with as much pride and dignity as possible. Thank you for this opportunity as I challenge you to continue to pray for the success of Harrells Christian Academy and its athletic program.
